A BIT ABOUT ME...

My name is Laurie Taylor, I am 19 years old and I am a professional Alpine Ski Racer. My ultimate goal is to compete at the highest level in World Cup Competitions as well as the Olympics.

I started skiing when I was 6 years old on a family holiday. From that moment I loved skiing and this led to me joining the Aldershot Ski Race Team when I was 9. I was very keen and wanted to get as many runs as possible on the training courses. It wasn’t long before I started joining in with other clubs (Bromley and Southampton), as well, to get more training. I went from coming nearly last to getting podiums within my first season.

When I was 10, I was invited to train at the British Ski Academy (BSA) by Malcolm Erskine, which is based in Les Houches, France. I have been skiing with BSA each European season since and I have also spent four season racing in New Zealand with the Queenstown Alpine Ski Team (QAST). To help fund this, I wash dishes in the BSA kitchen. I also help the caretaker of the Otago Ski Lodge, where I stay in New Zealand and I tune peoples skis.

Currently I am in the British U21 Ski Team and I have received a silver Olympic passport.

I completed my A-level equivalents in November 2012 and I am now taking time out to ski full time to realise my dreams.

GO TIME
08 June 2016

After 4 weeks at home of rest and fitness, it was already time to get back on the skis.
I just finished my first camp of the 2016/17 season with the new BSS development team, in Austria. This program has been set up with the aim to help us progress on to scoring Europa cup points. It was great meeting the coaches, Reini and Stefan and getting back to the basics. We had an awesome setup starting off in Kaprun on the Kitzsteinhorn glacier then the last week at hintertux. Having time on snow this early to drill in the basics is going to make a big difference. Now back home for three weeks to work hard on the physical training before the next camp. I will also be heading up to Stirling, Scotland in that time for fitness testing at the Scottish institute of sport. They'll asses me and help me out with a conditioning program to follow. I've never had testing in such detail before so I'm pretty excited.

That time of the year again
20 April 2016

Its that time of the year again, the snows starting to melt and its time to head home. I've had a great season with BSA. Thank you to the coaches, Kip, Duane and Jenny and the huge support from Artemis. I've made a lot of improvements in my skiing this season and it's shown in the results. I had my first FIS win, my first scores in the 30's and I was selected for the Junior world champs (unfortunately I was unable to go for financial reasons). I cut my slalom points in half, took my super g points down to a third of what they were and reduced my GS points. I was also happy to take second place at the national champs slalom. I'm confident going into summer training and I'm already excited to get back on skis.
